Animal & Human Reiki

Reiki is a natural way to assist humans, their pets and animals of all sizes to feel better. The Reiki energy is the same regardless of how it is being facilitated.
The main difference between giving Reiki to a human, is the need for human contact ( if it is a hands on treatment) There seems to be a tangibility to that. As quite often the client remarks on the sensation of cold or heat coming from the hands.
This gentle hands-on therapy promotes deep relaxation and restores balance to the entire body, whilst optimizing health.
It is different for animals as quite often they don't want to be touched, they may have trust issues, or just not enjoy the sensation. Reiki can still be used in this circumstance. When studying with Kathleen Prasad, she instills the principle of "Being" Reiki. Therefore simplifying the practice for animals. To the point you are often just sharing the space and meditating with them. Quite often they will come closer as they feel more comfortable.and if there are multiple treatments, you can really see them get excited by the prospect.
It is always of utmost importance to allow the animals to lead.

In my experience, giving Reiki to animals can be easier, (than our human counterparts), as there isn’t any ego, preconceived notions, or “emotional blockages” to overcome. They are usually willing participants. Gratefully receiving the universal healing energy. When participating in a hands-on session, you will feel the animal completely yield leaning into the hands and soaking it up, the animal seems to go into a trance-meditative state allowing the energy to go where it is needed. Usually the animal will let you know when to move hand positions or when the session has ended. Sometimes they will come and lean into you if they feel like they require more Reiki at another time.

Distance Reiki is really powerful. With the use of the Reiki II symbols and pure intent the results can be amazing. I have used this method whilst on the phone with a client enabling her and her husband to settle a bull calf for some timely medical intervention. An older dog that had lost the ability to use her hind legs was able to walk and play again. A Dalmatian friend avoided having expensive surgery on his knee after two Reiki treatments. (His knee was popping out 2-5 times a day. It has remained stable for 2 years)

Alternatively, Reiki can be given to the distressed or injured animal, just as effectively. Using the distance method. This is perfect for when an animal is really stressed, badly injured and unpredictable. It has a calming and soothing effect. I have witnessed a wide variety of domestic, native animals and livestock responding well to this method.
Reiki treatments are safe for all animals, and can work in combination with conventional western medicine and veterinary procedures. Reiki has proven results, and can assist with the following:
-
Accelerating the healing process from illness or surgery

-
Eases the pain associated with arthritis and joint mobility

-
Provides pain relief and relaxation, and enhances natural healing response

-
Reduces side effects from conventional cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy, while supporting recovery

-
Promotes a calm demeanor for animals that suffer from anxiety or stress

-
Comforts and relaxes animals nearing the end of life for a peaceful transition

-
Advances the process of building trust and understanding
-
-
Can assist in cellular repair
On occasion Donna uses a variety of crystals in conjunction with the Reiki treatment, with some powerful results. As the Reiki enhances the vibration and healing attributes of the crystals.
Reiki is a wonderful and unique way to bond with your furred, finned and feathered friends.
As Kathleen Prasad suggests, it is like meditating (with your best friend).
Reiki deepens the existing connection, between guardian and pet. In some cases, creating an intuitive link with your pet or other animals.

Practicing Reiki has assisted me greatly to communicate with animals, just holding space and allowing them to have a voice, is one of the greatest gifts you can possibly give to the sentient beings on the planet. As we are all one, and Reiki helps us understand this concept further.

Donna has witnessed Reiki having a positive impact on all sorts of animals. From fish, butterflies, birds, domestic pets, native wildlife, livestock, snakes, goats, horses, cows and chickens, just to name a few.

Reiki is a really useful tool in helping the animal transition when they have reached the end of this life cycle, they just drift off peacefully, surrounded by love and healing energy. It seems to be a calming way to assist the guardian to accept the passing of their loved one too, at this traumatic time.

Frequently Asked Reiki Questions
How I conduct a consultation
There is a client intake sheet that helps us identify the client history as Reiki works on the body mind and spirit. In some cases we can shift an emotional blockage from the human or animals past.
A wonderful by-product from a Reiki session seems to be the animal returning back to its more youthful ways.
Sometimes initiating play or playful puppy barks. It seems to rejuvenate their very spirit.

What does a Reiki treatment feel like?
The answer to this question is unique for each person or animal. Some people don’t feel anything during a Reiki treatment but notice some health improvements afterward. Animals are more sensitive to energy than people, and they feel Reiki and understand it’s healing benefits right away. With people, Reiki is often experienced as heat, vibrations, or pulsing. During a treatment, Reiki is usually associated with feelings of peace and relaxation.
For some clients, both people and animals, Reiki affects the emotions more than the physical body. This is because Reiki always finds the issues that need the most healing, and often physical issues have emotional root causes. When it is in the best interest of the client, Reiki can bring up past emotional issues that have been buried for many years and help the client to resolve and release them.
The results of a Reiki treatment may be felt during the treatment, directly after, or over the following several days. It may become clear that a significant issue has shifted or an old pattern released or there may be an unexpected physical improvement. Regular treatments facilitate the process of working through and letting go of the issues that need healing for animals and humans. Regular treatments bring about continued healing on all levels: physical, emotional, and spiritual.
Can Reiki ever do harm?
No, Reiki energy comes from a benevolent source in the Universe. Mrs. Takata, who brought Reiki to the West from Japan, described Reiki as “Godpower”, in the sense that the source of the energy is a power higher than mankind. It can only be used for good. If someone were to try to use Reiki for negative purposes, it simply would not work. * Reiki is a spiritual practice and not affiliated with any religion.
I’ve heard you can send Reiki over distances. Is this true?
Yes, this is true. Reiki, because it is pure energy, is not subject to the limitations of space, or for that matter of time. Scientists have accepted that space and time are relative, not absolute, concepts ever since Einstein’s Theory of Relativity was embraced by the scientific community. This concept is basic to the field of quantum physics. Although science cannot yet explain phenomena like Reiki in concrete terms, the conceptual framework to do so in the future has been developing for many years.
Distant Reiki is especially helpful with animals, since it means that any animal can be treated in any circumstance. Wild and/or fearful or aggressive animals can be treated without being restrained, having to submit to unwanted proximity to a human, or to human touch. Sending Reiki to mental and emotional matters, including past issues, can be a valuable part of treating both humans and animals. For instance, in animals, distant healing of the emotional effects of past trauma or abuse can greatly accelerate the healing of behavioral issues and deepen the relationship with human companions.
If I can’t bring my animal to you, is there any way you can help him/her?
Distant Reiki treatments are as effective as treatments given in person. We offer distant treatments for animals and their companions to address challenges on all levels: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Distant treatments can be helpful in any situation, including stress, illness, emotional distress, and when facing the end of life. Distant treatments can be helpful to the human caretaker as well around the time of an animal’s transition and in other stressful situations.
What kind of healing is Reiki and Crystal therapy?
In addition to Animal Communication, RiverGem offers two forms of energy healing for animals and their companions: Reiki and Crystal therapy. These methods are holistic and are part of the emerging field of energetic medicine. They have roots in the wisdom and knowledge of ancient cultures and have evolved for use in modern time. Reiki ad Crystal therapy are two of the best-known examples of energy healing systems and they have gained wide acceptance in our Western culture.
Physicists now believe that everything in the universe is made up of and connected by energy. Energy is present all around us at all times and interacts with our own energetic systems.by causing a positive shift at the innermost, energetic level of the person or animal being treated. They affect the physical body but encompass more than the physical level, addressing challenges and providing healing on mental, emotional, and spiritual levels as well.
Together with animal communication, Reiki and Crystal Healing allow beings to make long-lasting shifts toward health at the deepest levels. They are gentle, safe, non-invasive, painless, and stress-free for animals. Animals, including wild animals, readily understand and seek out their benefits. In addition, the treatments we offer involve no harm to any person, plant, or animal to provide their healing benefits.

Brief History of Reiki
Reiki comes to the modern world through the teaching lineage of Dr. Mikao Usui. Dr. Usui lived in Japan during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. For many years he persevered in a quest to achieve a deep understanding of healing. While on a 21 day meditative retreat and fast on Mt. Kurama, outside Kyoto, Japan, Dr. Usui had a mystical experience and received Reiki healing energy and the ability to transmit this power to heal. From this experience, he developed the Reiki healing system. Dr. Usui taught Reiki to many people, including Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, who became a highly respected Reiki Master. Dr. Hayashi established a Reiki clinic in Tokyo, at which a Japanese-American woman, Hawayo Takata, was first given a Reiki treatment. Mrs. Takata stayed in Japan and studied and practiced with Dr. Hayashi. In 1938, Dr. Hayashi initiated Mrs. Takata as a Reiki Master and allowed her to take Reiki out of Japan for the first time. Mrs. Takata taught Reiki in the United States and abroad for over 40 years. Because of Mrs. Takata, Reiki was able to spread beyond Japan, and today there are several million Reiki practitioners spread throughout all areas of the world.

Five Principles of Reiki
As outlined by Dr. Usui, there are five principles for living and practicing Reiki. Each of these principles may seem more important at some times in the life and practice of the Reiki practitioner than at others. Each principle can be used in many ways, including as a meditation, an affirmation, or a guide for living. Over time practitioners develop a deeper understanding of the relevance of the principles to all areas of life and practice. Like the healing system of Reiki, the principles are simple at first meeting but hold deeper meanings with further practice and contemplation. There are many variations of the The five principles, however the vibration is the same. Here is an example:

-
Just for today, do not worry.
-
Just for today, do not anger
-
Earn your living honestly.
-
Give thanks for my many blessings
-
Show gratitude to every living thing.

Reiki is a gentle, effective energy healing method, which treats the whole individual, not just the symptoms of a disease. With Reiki the practitioner acts as a conduit for the healing energy of the universe to flow through her hands to the animal or human client, causing a shift toward health at the deepest levels. It restores balance and harmony to a person or animal’s entire being: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Reiki can also be used to accelerate personal growth and transformation.

The name “Reiki” (pronounced Ray-kee) comes from the Japanese words “rei” meaning spirit and “ki” meaning energy. It is usually translated as “universal life energy.” The beauty of Reiki as a healing system is that it is simple, non-invasive, and stress-free, yet highly effective. Reiki is practiced throughout the world, including at over 300 major hospitals and medical centers in the U.S. Until recently, Reiki healing was available only to humans, but increasing numbers of Reiki practitioners are establishing practices devoted exclusively to animals.

Animals, including wild animals, intuitively recognize and appreciate Reiki’s ability to heal. They often quickly learn to seek it out on their own. Reiki does not cause stress, discomfort, or pain, and yet yields effective results. It heals at all levels of an animal’s being and can be used for any issue that arises for animals. Reiki is one of only a few healing methods that involve no harm to any living thing in order to bring about healing.
For healthy animals, Reiki treatments help to maintain the state of health, enhancing peace and overall well-being. Giving Reiki treatments to your animal companion deepens the bond and understanding between you.

For animals who are ill, Reiki assists healing at the deepest levels and is a safe complement to conventional Western medicine, Chinese medicine, homeopathy, flower essences, and all other forms of healing. Reiki helps to reduce the side effects of other treatments as well.

For dying animals, Reiki is a highly effective yet gentle way to provide comfort, relieve pain, fear, and anxiety, and ease the transition from this life. It provides support and help with grief and fear for the human companion as well. Reiki helps all concerned to complete unfinished matters and experience the transition with greater peace and illumination.
Animals often respond more quickly to Reiki than people do, and positive results are often seen in a shorter period of time.
